It was sometime in late January 1967, that the
plans to Organize a Club got underway. Most had
already agreed on the Name that was suggested,
now they needed a Patch. While Skip and Little
Rick were pondering some ideals, Skip was eating
a Toblerone chocolate bar, He noticed a flying
eagle on the wrapper, which was the trademark for
that European candy up till the late 60s. He
suggested they use a European Style Eagle for a
Patch. They then started researching for the
design, someone found a European coin, similar to
the one below, and Little Rick, the Artist of the
bunch, copied the wings along with the ideal of the
shield, adding the MC. the tail was redesign, as
was the head and then the neck was made long
enough to include 13 disks, one disk representing
each of the 13 Founders. Then color was added to
the design using magic markers, to give it a more
mystical and a flaming appearance. They cut it out
and then designed the top and bottom Rockers, the
end results is the drawing of our Patch at the top of
the page. They started moving very quickly now,
After presenting it and getting an agreement from
the other Founders, Skip went through the local
Yellow Pages and found an Embroidery Shop in
Jacksonville, Florida and by using the Ship's mail
service, sent the cutouts of the Patch and the
Rockers, which by then had been recreated into
script type letters, to the Company. With in a few
weeks, They received a large Envelope from Japan.
The Company in Jacksonville had sent the job to
KASAMAKI & CO. LTD EMBROIDERERS. In side
this envelope was a single Patch with a statement
that if they wanted to make any changes, to do so
now, before making up the rest of the patches.
After consulting with the Brothers, they decided to
make some minor changes to that patch design.
The most significant change was changing the
patch embroidery style, from a chenille type stitch,
which was a common style used in making high
school varsity letters, to a flat chain stitch. this was
the way they received the rest of the Patches. that
first and different embroidered Patch, somehow
ended up with Brother Shooter up in Kentucky, one
of the original 13. in 1975 he would give it to one of
our Mother Chapter Brothers from Orlando who
then wore it with a Florida Rocker until years later
he would lose it due to Law Enforcement problems.
It must be noted at this point that only 3 Chapters
(that we know of) came from our Founding 13
Shangri-La Brothers, The Jacksonville Chapter,
founded by Scotty, in which he used the same Jax
Beach Fla Rocker and had a few of the original 13
founders involved in it, was founded July 4th 1967
but would eventually disband in late 1970, Then the
Louisville Kentucky Chapter, founded by Shooter in
1970, which as a chapter, only lasted about a year.
and the Orlando Mother Chapter, founded by Grub
in 1971, which today has evolved into the Warlocks
MC with several chapters in the U.S. and in Europe.
ABOVE IS A TOBLERONE CHOCOLATE
BAR AS IT LOOKED IN 1967. THIS EAGLE
LOGO GAVE SKIP THE IDEAL TO USE A
EUROPEAN STYLE EAGLE AS OUR
PATCH. THOUGH NO ONE REMEMBERS
EXACTLY WHICH COIN THE PATCH WAS
FASHIONED FROM, THE ONE TO THE
RIGHT IS CLOSE TO THE ONE USED.
